2013 Marine Corps Historic Half

May 19, 2013

National Stroke Association is recruiting an inaugural team to participate in the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon. Runners will complete 13.1 miles from Central Park to Hospital Hill in Fredericksburg, Va., to be greeted by Marines at the finish line.

Members of National Stroke Association’s triathlon team will participate in a 1.5-km swim, a 40-km bike and a 10-km run throughout New York City. There are still a limited number of spots on the 2013 team.

All money raised goes to The National Stroke Association!

Event Description: You are invited to the fourth annual Orange County Stroke Rehab Network “Stroke Awareness Picnic”. This event will provide a chance for discussion, interaction, and a pleasant picnic revolving around stroke. All involved with stroke are invited: persons with stroke, friends/family, caregivers, therapists, nurses, physicians, and researchers. Stroke related vendors are invited to set up a display. Food and drinks will be provided. Please feel free to bring an appetizer or dessert to share with the group.

Living Well with Chronic Conditions is a six-week workshop that provides tools for living a healthy life with chronic health conditions, including diabetes, arthritis, asthma and heart disease. Through weekly sessions, the workshop provides support for continuing normal daily activities and dealing with the emotions that chronic conditions may bring about.

Event Description: Stroke Awareness and Education Fair is a FREE event open to all hospital staff and visitors. It includes education by the multi-disciplinary stroke team on signs and symptoms of a stroke, community resources, stroke core measures, rehabilitation and support. Stroke screening will be provided by Faith Community Nursing and Mercy Place Community Outreach. Education on common speaking and swallowing difficulties after stroke will be provided by speech therapist from Mercy Home care.  Join us for a day filled with education, snacks and prizes.
